"Taking A Step" - N.E.mation! 21 Animated Short

This is a 30-second animated clip my team and I did in an annual Singaporean competition called N.E.mation!, which aims to promote total defense to the public through animations. For this year's competition it was themed, "Together We Keep Singapore Strong". We decided to focus on the topic of Covid-19, and give the message that we can stand in solidarity with front liners, and that no matter how big or small our actions may be, everyone has a part to play amidst the Covid-19 pandemic to keep Singapore strong.

This was a 5-6 month long process, from pitching our ideas in Aug-Sep 2020 to the production phase in Oct-Dec 2020, up to the voting period & final results in Jan/Feb 2021, during which we promoted our clip on our team's instagram @co2mation (https://www.instagram.com/co2mation/) by posting various additional illustrations & behind-the-scenes content. Although it was tiring & draining since we had to juggle between our school work & this project, it was a very fruitful experience that I'm glad to have shared with my teammates.

I did the storyboards & animatics, the final drawing/painting of the backgrounds, the parallax background layers/camera movement in After Effects, the entire animation of the hospital scene & the cleanup animation of the restaurant scene (rough animation handled by Charmaine & coloured animation handled by Wan Qing for the restaurant scene)
As we progressed, we had to make many adjustments to the original plan, such as changing the ending, & putting in new foreground layers to the backgrounds, so they could cover up the transitions of the characters from one shot to the next.
